About Keppel Sands

Keppel Sands is a coastal rural town on the shore of Keppel Bay, the southernmost settlement on the Capricorn Coast in the Livingstone Shire. Originally known as Sandhills, it was named from Keppel Bay which Cook named in 1770 after Admiral Augustus Keppel. Boat ramps on Pumpkin Creek provide access to the bay for fishing and boating.
