About Wongaling Beach
Wongaling Beach is a tropical coastal town and locality in the Cassowary Coast Region of Queensland, a few kilometres south of Mission Beach and opposite Dunk Island. The name is taken from the long sandy beach that forms part of an 11-kilometre stretch of coastline shared with Mission Beach and South Mission Beach, and is believed to be an Aboriginal name for the local watercourse now known as Porter's Creek; the beach was formally named in 1966 and the town allotments surveyed in 1973. The town is a service centre for the tourism and accommodation of the Mission Beach district, and Mission Beach State School relocated here in 1993.
