About Wongabel
Wongabel is a rural locality in the Tablelands Region of Queensland, situated about 8 kilometres south-south-west of Atherton. The name is an Aboriginal word meaning wood pigeon, and during World War II the area hosted tent encampments of the Australian Army 6th and 7th Divisions as part of the Atherton Project.
