About Silkwood
Silkwood is a rural town on the Bruce Highway in the Cassowary Coast Region, roughly halfway between Tully and Innisfail in far north Queensland. The flat, low-lying land is dominated by sugarcane farming, and the area has a strong Italian heritage dating from significant post-war immigration. The annual Feast of the Three Saints, a Sicilian-origin festival held each May since 1950, is the town's signature event, and Silkwood Castle, a whimsical concrete structure, is a local curiosity.
