About Koombooloomba
Koombooloomba is a rural locality in the Tablelands Region of Queensland, on the Atherton Tablelands south-west of Ravenshoe. It is the site of Koombooloomba Dam across the Tully River, built in 1960 and surrounded by the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics rainforest. The dam stores water for two hydroelectric power stations, the Koombooloomba station on the dam wall and the underground Kareeya station on the Tully River, which was under construction in the locality during the 1950s. The area is on Jirrbal Country.
