About Bingil Bay
Bingil Bay is a coastal town, locality and bay in the Cassowary Coast Region of Queensland, one of the settlements that together form the coastal township of Mission Beach. The name comes from the Djiru Aboriginal people, for whom the bay meant "camping ground with good water". The Cutten brothers settled there from 1884, growing coffee on their Bicton estate and becoming known as Australia's coffee barons. Today the bay is a tropical holiday destination with views of Dunk Island, and the surrounding rainforest is home to the endangered cassowary.
