About Pallara

Pallara is an outer southern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, situated approximately 24 kilometres south of the Brisbane CBD between Oxley and Blunder Creeks. The name Pallara is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "flat land," though it is not from a local Indigenous language. The area was historically semi-rural, with land first subdivided for ten-acre fruit-growing farmlets in 1892 as the Mildura Estate. Electricity did not reach the suburb until 1961, and it was formally established in 1971. Pallara lies on the traditional lands of the Yuggera Nation and forms part of the Oxley Wedge, a green corridor linking Karawatha Forest to Parkinson Bushland. The Pallara Parklands, opened in 1997 on a former waste disposal site, provide recreational facilities for the community.
