About Fairfield (Qld)
Fairfield is a riverside suburb of the City of Brisbane, Queensland, located approximately five and a half kilometres south of the Brisbane CBD on the Brisbane River. Named after an arrowroot farm established by Samuel and George Grimes in 1857, the suburb has a long history with Fairfield Baptist Church opening in 1865. Parts of the suburb were flooded in 1974 and January 2011. Fairfield is bounded by the South Brisbane Cemetery to the north, the Beenleigh railway line to the east and the Brisbane River to the west. The suburb includes Fairfield Gardens shopping centre, a skate park and a public library. The Fairfield railway station on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines provides commuter access.
