About Dutton Park
Dutton Park is an inner southern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, located 4.8 kilometres south of the Brisbane central business district. Named after Charles Boydell Dutton, Queensland Minister for Lands from 1883 to 1887, the area was originally difficult terrain with government reserves surveyed in 1863. The South Brisbane Cemetery, reserved in 1866, is Brisbane's oldest surviving municipal cemetery. Boggo Road Gaol opened on 2 July 1883 and is heritage-listed, now operating as a historical museum. The Eleanor Schonell Bridge opened on 17 December 2006 connecting Dutton Park to the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus, carrying the busway, cyclists and pedestrians but not private automobiles. The suburb is also home to the Ecosciences Precinct opened in 2011.
