About Wellington Point

Wellington Point is a residential coastal locality in the City of Redland on the eastern side of Brisbane, bounded by Moreton Bay and Hilliards Creek and a popular seaside destination. Named in 1842 by surveyors after the Duke of Wellington, the point grew as a picnic and camping spot served by a railway from Brisbane from 1887, with swimming enclosures and jetties by the early 1900s. Today it is best known for the sandbar walk across to King Island, which emerges from the water at low tide.
