About Cleveland (Qld)
Cleveland is a coastal locality on the western shores of Moreton Bay in the City of Redland, Queensland, approximately 25 kilometres east-southeast of Brisbane. It is the traditional territory of the Koobenpul clan of the Quandamooka people. The locality was likely named by surveyors in the 1840s after William Vane, 1st Duke of Cleveland, and was proclaimed a township in 1850. Once considered as a potential major port to replace Brisbane, the area features Toondah Harbour, the ferry terminal for North Stradbroke Island, and Raby Bay, a canal estate development. Cleveland Point hosts a heritage-listed lighthouse constructed in 1864, while the surrounding coastal wetlands form part of the Moreton Bay Ramsar site.
