About Ormiston

Ormiston is a coastal suburb of the City of Redland, about 23 km east of central Brisbane on the shores of Raby Bay off Moreton Bay. It was named by Scottish aristocrat Captain Louis Hope after his family's village in Scotland, and his Ormiston House estate was among the birthplaces of Queensland's sugar industry in the 1860s. The heritage-listed Ormiston House, the suburb's bayfront reserves and its railway station make it a leafy bayside enclave within the Redlands.
