Thorneside

About Thorneside

Thorneside is a coastal urban locality in the City of Redland, Queensland, Australia, situated approximately 17 kilometres east of central Brisbane. Bounded to the north-east by Waterloo Bay, part of Moreton Bay, and to the west by Tingalpa Creek, the locality features Mooroondu Point at the creek's mouth. The area is named after the Thorneside railway station on the Cleveland railway line, which in turn derived its name from early settler William Thorne, who subdivided his land for small farm and seaside blocks in 1913. The station originally opened in 1889 as Waterloo before being renamed. Notable features include the William Taylor Memorial Reserve sportsground, local shops along Thorneside Road, and wetlands near the mouth of Tingalpa Creek.
