About Coolgardie (NSW)
Coolgardie is a small rural locality in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, about 20 kilometres south-west of Lismore in the Ballina council area. The rolling subtropical hills sit on the red basalt soils of the Alstonville Plateau, once covered by the Big Scrub rainforest, and the area retains pockets of remnant subtropical rainforest and a locally significant escarpment. Timber-getters once worked the district for cedar and other rainforest timbers, and today the land supports cattle farming and rural holdings.
