About Argenton
Argenton is a suburb of Lake Macquarie in Greater Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, located 16 kilometres west of the Newcastle CBD on the shores of Australia's largest coastal saltwater lake. On the traditional land of the Awabakal people, the suburb had a significant industrial history as the site of the Cockle Creek lead and zinc smelter, which operated from 1896 to 2001 and has since been remediated.
