About Brownsville
Brownsville is a suburb of the City of Wollongong in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, situated on the northern shore of Lake Illawarra. The suburb was the site of the first European settlement at Dapto in the early nineteenth century, prior to the development of Dapto around the South Coast railway station further south. Brownsville sits within the broader Dapto area and is characterised by residential housing, remnant bushland and waterfront areas along Lake Illawarra.
