About Dapto

Dapto is a suburb of Wollongong on the western shore of Lake Illawarra, with a history dating to the 1830s. Once a major dairying centre whose railway station was the most profitable on the Illawarra line, it was also home to a large smelting works that operated from 1897 to 1905, and its name is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning water plenty.
