About Purlewaugh
Purlewaugh is a small rural locality in the Warrumbungle Shire of central-western New South Wales, located about 26 kilometres east of Coonabarabran along the Castlereagh Highway. The area supports sheep and cattle grazing on rolling hills and open plains, and sits within traditional Gamilaraay and Wiradjuri country. Following World War I the district was subdivided for soldier settlement, and Italian prisoners of war were stationed on local farms during World War II.
