About Coonabarabran

Coonabarabran is a town in Warrumbungle Shire, New South Wales, sitting on the divide between the Central West and North West Slopes regions. Known to locals as "Coona", it is a gateway to Warrumbungle National Park, Australia's first Dark Sky Park, and to Siding Spring Observatory, home of the Anglo-Australian Telescope, the largest optical telescope in the country. The town markets itself as the astronomy capital of Australia and is the closest town to the Pilliga Forest.
