About Binnaway
Binnaway is a small town on the Castlereagh River in the Warrumbungle Shire of central western New South Wales, about 35 kilometres south of Coonabarabran. The name comes from the Kamilaroi word for peppermint tree, and the town stands on the lands of the Kamilaroi people. The township grew from a subdivision of the Mowabla pastoral run in 1876 and developed rapidly after the railway arrived in 1917, becoming an important rail junction on the Dubbo to Werris Creek line in 1923.
