About Sofala

Sofala is a village in New South Wales, Australia, 255 kilometres (158 mi) north-west of Sydney, on the Turon River near the Bathurst-Ilford Road. The village grew out of the gold rush sparked by the discovery of gold at Summerhill Creek in 1851 and is regarded as the oldest surviving gold-rush town in Australia.
