About Wattle Flat (NSW)

Wattle Flat is a village in the Bathurst Region of New South Wales, on the traditional land of the Wiradjuri people, near the confluence of Big Oaky Creek and Solitary Creek. Gold was discovered here in 1851 and the area boomed on alluvial and reef mining, at one point supporting ten hotels. The Big Oaky Mine ran from 1877 to 1937, and the village has had a public school since 1858.
