About Merricumbene
Merricumbene is a locality in the Eurobodalla Shire of New South Wales, about 43 km south of Braidwood and 40 km north-west of Moruya, in the valley of the Deua River. It lies on the traditional lands of the Yuin people and was the site of a gold-mining settlement, part of the Deua River goldfield, where alluvial gold was being worked by 1859. Gold dredges later worked the river, and the locality retains a cemetery and a small airstrip.
