About Yan Yean
Yan Yean is a semi-rural locality about 34 km north-east of Melbourne, spanning the City of Whittlesea and the Shire of Nillumbik. The Yan Yean Reservoir, completed in 1857 as Melbourne's first permanent water supply, was at the time the largest artificial reservoir in the world. The locality also contains Bear's Castle, a bluestone building erected around 1848, and the reservoir parkland offers picnicking, barbecues and walking.
