About Doreen
Doreen is a residential and rural suburb on the north-eastern edge of Melbourne, split between the City of Whittlesea and the Shire of Nillumbik, about 28 km from the central business district and west of the Yan Yean Reservoir. Patrick Reid settled the area in 1844, calling his pastoral run Hazel Glen, and the district kept that name until a post office opened in 1870 and the area was renamed Doreen in 1895. The western part has seen suburban housing development since 1999, while the eastern part remains green and hilly rural country.
