About Frankston North
Frankston North, originally the Pines Forest Estate and still known as 'The Pines', is a suburb on Melbourne's south-eastern fringe, about 38 km from the city centre. It was built from the mid-1950s on a former state pine plantation by the Housing Commission of Victoria. The suburb is home to the Pines Flora and Fauna Reserve, 108 hectares of remnant Mornington Peninsula bushland sheltering orchids, bandicoots and swamp wallabies, and to the Pines Forest Swimming Centre with its 50-metre heated pool. Local sporting clubs include the Pines football club and the Frankston Pines soccer club.
