About Seaford (Vic.)
Seaford is a beachside suburb 36 km south-east of central Melbourne in the City of Frankston, on the eastern shore of Port Phillip Bay. It was named in 1913, ahead of the opening of its railway station, for Sleaford in England, the home town of the councillor who suggested the name. The suburb is known for the Seaford Foreshore Reserve, one of the last continuous strands of natural coastal vegetation near Melbourne, and for Kananook Creek, with the Edithvale-Seaford Wetland preserving a remnant of the former Carrum Swamp.
