About Montmorency

Montmorency ( MON-mə-REN-see) is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 18 km (11 mi) north-east from Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Banyule local government area. Montmorency recorded a population of 9,250 at the 2021 census. Montmorency was named after a local farm, Montmorency Estate, which in turn was named after the town of Montmorency, Val-d'Oise, where the French Enlightenment philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau lived briefly.
