About Yarrambat
Yarrambat is a town 24 km north-east of Melbourne in the Shire of Nillumbik, beyond the metropolitan urban growth boundary. Settled in the late 19th century as a gold-mining area, it was known as Tanck's Corner after the settler Frederick Tanck, then renamed in the 1920s with a Woiwurrung word meaning high hills or pleasant views. Its undulating countryside looks west over the Plenty Valley and north to the Whittlesea Ranges, and the original 1878 schoolhouse survives as the Yarrambat Heritage Museum.
