About Bulong
Bulong is an abandoned town in Western Australia's Goldfields-Esperance region, about 580 km east of Perth. Gold was discovered there in 1893 by a group of prospectors on a lease named IOU, and the town was gazetted in 1895. It grew to 620 residents by 1900, with hotels, stores, a hospital, school and its own newspaper, the Bulong Bulletin. As the gold ran out the town declined, but a nickel mine operated near the old townsite until recent decades.
