About Parkeston

Parkeston is a suburb of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia's goldfields, 3 km (2 mi) east of the city centre. From 1917 it was a railway town where goods and passengers changed between narrow-gauge and standard-gauge transcontinental lines, a role that ended with gauge standardisation in 1970. It also supplied water to Kalgoorlie and hosted a quarantine camp during the 1919 Spanish flu pandemic. The suburb contains the Ninga Mia Aboriginal community.
