About Nickol
Nickol is a locality in the City of Karratha in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Situated on the coastal plain at about 18 metres above sea level, it covers an area of 3 square kilometres. The locality is named after Nickol Bay, a body of water between the Burrup Peninsula and Dixon Island that was named by surveyor John Septimus Roe for a sailor lost overboard during an expedition. Nickol borders Baynton, Millars Well, and Gap Ridge, and lies within a region known for its red earth, ancient rock formations, and mineral deposits.
