About Cooloongup

Cooloongup is a residential outer southern suburb about 45 km south of Perth's CBD in the City of Rockingham, named after Lake Cooloongup, a shallow seasonal saline lake dominating the suburb's eastern portion. Known locally as one of the "White Lakes" due to its dry white salt crust, the lake holds cultural significance for the local Nyungar people and contains ancient microorganism structures called microbialites. Rockingham General Hospital, Rockingham Golf Club and bushland walking trails around the lake system are notable landmarks.
