About Leda
Leda is a southern suburb of Perth in the City of Kwinana, Western Australia, approximately 40 kilometres south of the CBD. Named after the brig Leda which brought settlers to the Swan River Colony in January 1830, the suburb was established in the late 1960s to provide housing for workers in the Kwinana industrial region, including the BP Oil Refinery. The area contains heritage-listed Sloans Cottage, built in 1911 by the Sloan family who farmed potatoes and cabbages on the site until the 1950s. The adjacent Leda Nature Reserve protects tuart-jarrah woodlands and wetlands as part of the Beeliar wetland system.
