About Marmion
Marmion is a northern coastal suburb of Perth in the City of Joondalup, Western Australia, located 17 kilometres northwest of the Perth central business district on the Indian Ocean coastline. Named after Irish immigrant Patrick Marmion who operated a whaling station in the area from 1850 to 1852 processing southern right whales, the townsite was gazetted in 1940 and the primary school was established in 1956 with the nickname The Little School in the Bush. The suburb is bounded by Marmion Avenue to the east, Beach Road to the south and West Coast Drive along the coast, and is home to Marmion Marine Park. Pre-settlement the Whadjuk Aboriginal people called the area Mooro.
