About Coolup
Coolup is a small town in the Peel region of Western Australia, situated just off the South Western Highway about 100 kilometres south of Perth and 13 kilometres south of Pinjarra, close to the Murray River. The area was first settled in 1886 and the townsite was gazetted in 1899; the name is derived from the Noongar language and is believed to mean 'the place of the wild turkey'. The historic Coolup General Store has served travellers on the highway for over a century.
