About Waroona
Waroona is a town in the Peel region of Western Australia on the South Western Highway between Pinjarra and Harvey, and the seat of the Shire of Waroona. It grew around a timber mill established in 1895 near a railway station called Drake's Brook, after which the town was gazetted as Drakesbrook. The name Waroona, probably taken from Werroona on the Bendigo goldfields and meaning 'resting place', was officially adopted in 1946, and the Drakesbrook Dam, built in 1931-32, supplied the local irrigation district.
