About Nanga Brook
Nanga Brook is a former timber-milling town in the Peel region of Western Australia, now part of the Lane Poole Reserve between Dwellingup and Waroona. Logging began there in 1898, and a townsite grew up around the Nanga Mill, which employed more than 100 men and supported a community with a store, school, hall and sporting facilities. The town was abandoned in the wake of the 1961 bushfires, and the surrounding jarrah forest and the undammed Murray River, with its waterfalls and rock pools, are now protected as the 55,000-hectare Lane Poole Reserve.
