About Wingeel

Wingeel is a locality in south-west Victoria straddling the Colac Otway and Golden Plains shires, on the Hamilton Highway west of Geelong. The name was recorded as early as 1859. In 1950 much of the area, part of the Barunah Plains estate, was subdivided under the Soldier Settlement Scheme, a change commemorated by a plaque beside the highway. The Western standard gauge railway line passes through the locality.
