About Branxholme
Branxholme is a small rural township in the Western District of Victoria, on the Henty Highway about 23 kilometres south-west of Hamilton. Surveyed in 1852 and probably named after Branxholme Castle in Scotland, it grew around the crossing of Arandoovong Creek, where a hotel had opened in 1843. Sheep grazing has long been the main activity, and the Hamilton-Portland railway line still serves the town.
