About Burnewang

Burnewang is a rural locality in the Campaspe Shire of the Goulburn Valley in Victoria, located about 151 kilometres from Melbourne between Elmore and Rochester on the Campaspe River. First occupied as a pastoral run in the 1840s with 12 miles of river frontage covering approximately 100,000 acres, the area served as a staging post for Cobb and Co coaches running between Melbourne and the Bendigo goldfields. Burnewang House, designed by Reed Smart and Tappin in 1903, is regarded as one of Australia's grandest country homesteads with 32 rooms of red brick, massive Oregon beams, and stained glass windows.
