About Willaura
Willaura is a rural town in the Western District of Victoria, on the railway line between Ararat and Hamilton, about 35 km south-west of Ararat in the Rural City of Ararat. The town, earlier known as Wickliffe Road, took its present name about 1905, with the name traditionally said to come from the question 'Will Laura?'. It became an important grain-receival centre, at one stage the second biggest in the western half of Victoria, and nearby Cockajemmy Lakes mark the camp of the explorer Major Thomas Mitchell in 1836.
