About Big Desert
Big Desert is a locality in the far west of Victoria, adjoining the border with South Australia, within the Shires of Hindmarsh, Mildura and West Wimmera. Almost the entire locality is conservation land, occupied by the Big Desert Wilderness Park, Victoria's first wilderness park (established 1979), and the adjoining Wyperfeld National Park, which protect remote areas of semi-arid mallee and heathland on the sand dunes of the Big Desert.
