About Armstrong

Armstrong is a small town on the Western Highway about 9 km north-west of Ararat in Victoria, named after John Armstrong, who took up the Allanvale pastoral run in 1854. It began as a gold-mining settlement after gold was found in the district in 1855, and at its peak had a population of 516, a school and two breweries. The Melbourne to Adelaide railway line passes through the town, which has been reduced to a quiet farming community.
