About Tooradin

Tooradin is a bayside town on Sawtells Inlet at the northern end of Western Port Bay in the City of Casey, about 58 km south-east of Melbourne on the South Gippsland Highway. Its name comes from the Aboriginal words too-roo-dun, meaning swamp monster or bunyip. Settled as a cattle run in 1840, the town grew around a fishing industry that sent fresh fish to Melbourne by rail after the railway arrived in 1888, and was long known as the Sportsman's Paradise.
