About Warneet
Warneet is a small coastal town on Rutherford Inlet, an arm at the north end of Western Port in south-eastern Victoria, near Tooradin. Known as Crouch's Beach in the 1920s, after Les Crouch who cut a track to the foreshore and built the first holiday house, it was later renamed Warneet, an Aboriginal word meaning 'river'. The town developed as a holiday and fishing centre, with a harbour and jetty built in 1956, and is now home to a yacht club, boat ramps and a general store. Its foreshore is fronted by the mangroves and mudflats of the Warneet Nature Reserve.
