About Lysterfield South
Lysterfield South is an outer suburb of Melbourne, about 30 km south-east of the central business district within the City of Casey. The area, on the traditional land of the Wurundjeri people, was settled by Europeans in 1838. The suburb contains Churchill National Park, established in 1941 as Dandenong National Park and renamed in 1944 in honour of Winston Churchill, on land that was once the Dandenong Police Paddock where police horses grazed. The adjacent Lysterfield Park hosts mountain bike trails used in the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
