About Lysterfield
Lysterfield is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, 32 kilometres south-east of the central business district, within the City of Knox and the Yarra Ranges Shire. It was mostly farming country along the Monbulk Creek valley until the late 20th century, and takes its name from William Saurin Lyster, an opera entrepreneur who donated land for a local school in 1874. The suburb's main landmark is Lysterfield Lake, built in 1929 as a water-supply reservoir and now the centre of a popular park for walking, sailing, canoeing and mountain biking.
