About Dingley Village
Dingley Village is a suburb of Melbourne about 23 kilometres south-east of the central business district, in the City of Kingston; it was known as Dingley until 1991. In 1856 Thomas Attenborough bought land in the area and named his house Dingley Grange after Dingley Hall in his native Northamptonshire. A farming community grew up around market gardens and poultry, with Christ Church (1873) as an early landmark, and a cannery opened by the Gartside brothers around 1920 employed up to 50 local people. Urbanisation began in the early 1960s, and the suburb is bordered to the south by Braeside Park.
