About Yering
Yering is a town in the Yarra Valley of Victoria, about 38 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, on the Yarra River. It is the home of Victoria's first vineyard: the Ryrie brothers planted vines at Yering Station in 1838, and in the decades that followed the valley's wines gained international fame, with Yering Station winning the Argus Gold Cup in 1861 and a Grand Prix at the Paris World Exhibition of 1889. The town's name is said to have been given to the land by its Aboriginal inhabitants. The Yarra Valley wine industry collapsed after the First World War, and winemaking in the district only revived from the 1960s.
